Michigan Simplifies Prevailing Wage Rules — Effective November 1, 2025

Michigan contractors will soon see improvements to the state’s prevailing wage system.

Effective November 1, 2025, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) will implement reforms that simplify compliance and reduce confusion for contractors statewide.

Thanks to ABC’s advocacy and member input, the updated system will:
  • Reduce job classifications to about 55 per county — nearly two-thirds fewer than before.
  • Standardize job titles and consolidate duplicates.
  • Simplify bidding, payroll, and reporting, cutting down on costly errors.
  • Align Michigan’s framework with other models like Minnesota’s, where ABC also helped shape similar reforms.

These updates reflect ABC’s ongoing commitment to common-sense regulation that supports a strong, competitive, skilled trades workforce.
