Safety doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a choice, a commitment, and a promise. On May 7, EV Construction brought that promise to life during a successful Stand Down Day at the Pine Rest job site.
The event brought together 180 participants—including workers, supervisors, and safety managers—centered around a single, lifesaving message: Fall Prevention. But this was more than a safety talk—it was a hands-on commitment to protecting the industry and the people who keep it moving.
Supported by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) and ABC Western Michigan, this Stand Down Day underscored the importance of proactive safety. The focus was clear: Plan, Provide, and Train.
During the event, Chris Smith, EV’s Director of Safety, shared a powerful reminder: “Safety isn’t something we talk about once a year. It’s how we operate, every day.” Mike Novakoski, President and CEO of EV Construction, added: “When we stand down, we actually stand up—for each other.”
Participants didn’t just listen—they engaged. Workers asked questions, gained insights, and learned directly from safety experts like Nikki Clark from MIOSHA. The event also highlighted MIOSHA’s Consultation, Education, and Training (CET) division, providing valuable support to Michigan employers committed to workplace safety.
By prioritizing worker safety through initiatives like this Stand Down Day, EV Construction, MIOSHA, and ABC Western Michigan are setting the standard for a safer, more responsible industry—demonstrating an unwavering commitment to protecting the industry and its people.
